Certificate guide
Which SSL certificate do I need?
Answer the three questions and we suggest the certificate.
Every certificate encrypts equally well
Certificates do not differ in the strength of the encryption. They differ in two things: what they secure (one name, all subdomains or several domains), and what the issuer checks (the domain only, or your company too).
When do I need my company verified?
A Domain Validation (DV) certificate is enough for most sites and is issued within minutes. An Organisation Validation (OV) certificate puts your company's name in the certificate after checking it, useful for shops and sites that take customer data. Extended Validation (EV) is the highest level, for banks and financial platforms.
Frequently asked questions
Is a free certificate enough?
For a simple information site, usually yes. A paid certificate helps when you need your company verified, a warranty, or support when something goes wrong.
What is the difference between Wildcard and Multi-Domain?
A Wildcard secures one name and all its subdomains, like shop.example.com and mail.example.com. A Multi-Domain certificate secures different domains, like example.com and example.net.
How long does issuing take?
Domain validation takes minutes. Company validation takes days, because the issuer checks the company's documents.
Who installs the certificate?
We install and renew it for you, so you need no technical knowledge.
